Black Isle Bar & Rooms

If you ever find yourself wandering the lively streets of Inverness and stumble upon 68 Church Street, don’t be surprised if the scent of freshly baked dough and the sound of clinking pints pull you into Black Isle Bar & Rooms-a spot that’s more than just a bar, but an entire vibe. Tucked away in the heart of the Highlands, this eco-conscious haven combines rustic charm, bold flavors, and a beer lineup that would make any hophead weak at the knees.

From the moment you walk in, it’s clear this place takes its craft seriously. The Black Isle Bar & Rooms is not your run-of-the-mill pub. With a focus on local ingredients, sustainable brewing, and a warm, pet-friendly, and kid-welcoming environment, it hits that rare sweet spot between casual comfort and thoughtful curation. The walls are lined with taps that pour out local legends like Black Isle Organic Beer, Local Helles, and root beer for those skipping alcohol but not skipping flavor.

Let’s talk food-because yes, it’s that good. The star of the show? Pizza. And not just any pizza. We’re talking stone-baked masterpieces, perfectly blistered crusts, and toppings that make you raise your eyebrows in delicious disbelief. Think Black Pudding and Goat’s Cheese Pizza stealing the spotlight in the foreground while the Venison & Blue Cheese Pizza casually dominates the background with rich, gamey intensity. Vegans aren’t left out either-there’s a Vegan Pizza that’s anything but boring, stacked with plant-powered flavor and crafted with just as much attention.

Craving something to nibble with your pint? The Bruschetta and Cheese Platter have you covered. Looking for something bold and different? The Salmon Pizza is a twist on tradition you didn’t know you needed. And if you’ve got a soft spot for spice, the Pepperoni and Chilli Pizza delivers a kick that pairs oh-so-well with a chilled pint of Helles.

Now, you might be wondering-does the bar part live up to the name? Oh, absolutely. This place doesn’t play around. From craft beers on tap to gins that explore the botanicals of the Highlands, the drinks menu is expansive without being overwhelming. It’s not just about alcohol, either. Whether you’re sipping on Black Tea with Fresh Milk, reaching for a juice, or nursing a steaming mug of something warm, there’s a drink for every mood.

As for the vibe-Black Isle Bar & Rooms brings a blend of modern and rustic that just works. It’s air-conditioned, smoke-free, and filled with the kind of easygoing energy that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. You’ll find groups gathered around pizzas, solo diners with laptops enjoying the free Wi-Fi, and travelers checking into the adjoining rooms upstairs, which offer cozy accommodation for those who want the full experience.

The service is relaxed but attentive. Staff members know their stuff-ask about the beer selection and you’ll get a mini masterclass in hops, malts, and the story behind their brews. It’s that kind of place where you feel welcome, whether you’re a local popping in for your usual or a visitor looking for a bite and a brew.

And here's a fun bonus: it’s pet-friendly. Yep, your furry companion can join you while you sip a pint and enjoy the atmosphere. No airport shuttle or fitness center, but who needs that when you’ve got good food, great drinks, and Highland hospitality?

In short, Black Isle Bar & Rooms isn’t just a restaurant or a bar-it’s a destination. One that wraps craft, community, and comfort into a single unforgettable spot on Church Street, right in the heart of Inverness.

I cannot comment on the rooms as never stayed but We come here basically all the time for pizza ! Always a great vibe and atmosphere, the pizza is the best offering gluten free option also - which is just as tasty as the regular . Garlic bread is on point also. Great drink options and local beers I’ve not tried but partner and friends love , i have never had a bad experience here and will keep coming back. Upstairs garden is nice too on a sunny day with open seating or sheltered, best pizza in Inverness.

We had a great night at the Black Isle Bar. Sat inside and ended up sharing a table with another couple, which made for a really nice, friendly atmosphere. The vibe in the bar is relaxed and welcoming, with a good mix of people. We enjoyed a couple of Black Isle Blonde beers — very refreshing — and shared a pepperoni pizza, which was absolutely delicious with a lovely thin base and great flavour. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the whole place has a really cool style with lots of character. It’s the perfect spot for a casual evening in Inverness, whether you’re after good drinks, great food or just a nice place to hang out. Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be back!

Didn't stay here but a great place to come for excellent choice of beers and great pizzas that were excellent value. Don't need to book which is a plus and you can sit anywhere. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Would recommend.

Went there for lunch today (Sunday 29 June). Friendly, welcoming staff. Functionally furnished with a number of big tables with benches as well as smaller ones. Good selection of tasty pizzas, but more importantly, a huge selection of beers (26 on tap today), from session beers to some up to 12%abv. Thirds of a pint available for tasters. Highly recommended. A few minutes walk from the bus and railway stations; perhaps a few minutes longer on the way back!

Very cool place. Downstairs is standard pub-style. The not so hidden secret is the rooftop beer garden. Great spot to hang out. Even has tiny rooms/huts that are cool spot to share company. Good beer selection.
